The Green Line – Cyprus

Throughout the 1990s the artist spent long periods in Cyprus exploring the one hundred and twenty five miles of the ‘Green Line’ that divides Cyprus meandering across the island from Pyrgos in the west to Dherinia in the east. He visited several key points from the Turkish Cypriot as well as the Greek Cypriot territory culminating in extensive, escorted tours with the United Nations Peace Keeping Force [UNIFCYP], entering the Dead and Buffer Zones that separate the territories and have remained unoccupied since 1973. He undertook formal painting commissions with the UN military during this period. Drawings and Paintings from these extensive tours of the Line were exhibited in three one-person exhibitions in Nicosia, many are now in public, company and individual collections.
